WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Acadia Axewomen women’s soccer program has secured a key addition to its 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of defender Rebecca McDow of Italy Cross, N.S.

A 5-foot-7 centre back, McDow has been a fixture in the Nova Scotia high-performance pathway for years, competing with both the provincial program and the Soccer Nova Scotia REX program since the age of 14. Most recently, she captained Team Nova Scotia at the 2025 Canada Games, starting every match and playing all 90 minutes in each. She helped lead the team to a bronze medal, scoring the decisive penalty kick in the medal match.

“I am very excited to continue my soccer journey with the Axewomen,” said McDow. “Being surrounded by very skilled players and a positive team environment will give me the opportunity to grow as a player.”

At the high school level, McDow was a standout for Park View Education Centre, where she was part of the team’s 2024 provincial championship run. She also played club soccer with Halifax County U17AAA, adding to her experience against top competition.

Head coach Danielle Cyr said McDow’s qualities as both a player and person make her a strong fit for the Axewomen.

“Rebecca is an excellent ball-playing centre back whose composure and steady nature make her a dependable leader on the field,” said Cyr. “Having worked with her in Soccer Nova Scotia's high-performance program for the past number of years, I've seen her strong soccer IQ and relentless compete. She had a standout performance at the Canada Games and showed she is ready to compete at the next level. Rebecca is an exceptional human and teammate and we are excited to have her join our Axewomen soccer program.”

McDow will enrol in Acadia’s kinesiology program when she arrives on campus in 2026.
