The Acadia Axemen have strengthened their future in goal with the commitment of Ontario standout Dominic Cabral for the 2026 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s soccer season.
Cabral, a 6'1 goalkeeper from Woodstock, Ont., arrives at Acadia following an impressive youth career with the London Whitecaps in the OPDL. Serving as team captain, he led the Whitecaps to a 15-3-3 record in 2026, earning distinction as the league leader in clean sheets. His performances also helped the team capture both the Umbro Cup and OPDL Cup titles.
Cabral’s consistency and command in net earned him selection to the OPDL Team of the Month, and he later received an invitation to the Vancouver FC prospect and integration camp, reflecting his emergence as one of Ontario’s top young goalkeepers.
He said committing to Acadia represents the payoff of years of dedication.
“It means a lot to commit to Acadia,” Cabral said. “Although it’s far from home, that makes the commitment even more exciting. I’ve wanted this for a very long time, and to finally see my hard work pay off means a lot. It’s a big change, but I’m ready for what’s next.”
Cabral will study kinesiology when he arrives on campus in the fall of 2026.
Axemen head coach Matt Holton said Cabral brings a modern, well-rounded skill set suited for the university game.
“We’re delighted to have Dominic join the Axemen program this fall,” said Holton. “He is a top young goalkeeper who is just as comfortable with the ball at his feet as he is keeping the ball out of the net, and he will be a great addition to the team.”
Cabral is the first announced addition to an Axemen recruiting class focused on adding depth, technical ability, and long-term stability as the program continues to build toward future AUS contention.
Dartmouth defender Ryan Aucoin is bringing his multi-sport toughness and leadership to Wolfville, securing a spot on the Acadia back line as a cornerstone of the 2026 recruiting class.
