The Acadia Axewomen soccer program has added another experienced Nova Scotia defender with the commitment of Kylie Buchanan of Bridgewater, N.S., for the 2026 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) season.

Buchanan, a 5’6 defender, arrives in Wolfville following a strong developmental pathway through club, provincial and national programs. A graduate of Park View Education Centre, she began her soccer career with South Shore United before moving on to Halifax County United, where she has competed since age 16.

Her development continued with Soccer Nova Scotia from 2021 to 2025 and the Whitecaps Excel Program from 2021 to 2024, providing regular exposure to high-level training and competition. Buchanan was part of Team Nova Scotia’s bronze-medal performance at the 2025 Canada Games, adding valuable experience in high-pressure tournament settings.

At the school level, Buchanan helped Park View Education Centre capture provincial gold medals in 2024 and 2025. Individually, she earned FTF Halifax Defensive MVP honours in 2024, recognizing her consistency, physicality and effectiveness in one-on-one defending.

Head coach Danielle Cyr said Buchanan’s growth and reliability have been evident over several seasons.

“Kylie is a steady, reliable and gritty defender with excellent athleticism and strong one-v-one skills,” said Cyr. “Having worked with Kylie through the Canada Games, provincial and Whitecaps programs, I’ve seen her continue to mature as a player. She brings a team-first mindset and a willingness to learn that fits seamlessly into our culture.”

Buchanan said Acadia’s environment and academic support stood out during her recruitment process.

“I chose Acadia because it’s close to home and has a really supportive, welcoming environment,” she said. “The smaller class sizes mean I’ll be able to build strong connections with my professors, and the coaching staff genuinely care about their players.”

She said she’s looking forward to joining a group that values growth and accountability.

“I’m excited to be part of a program where teammates push each other to get better on and off the field,” Buchanan said. “That sense of connection and hard work really motivates me.”

Buchanan will study Biology at Acadia, allowing her to explore future opportunities in health and science-related fields. She said the university’s academic structure will help her identify the path that best suits her interests.

She will join the Axewomen alongside her twin sister, Jada, who is also set to arrive on campus in August, as Acadia continues to build a competitive and cohesive roster for the 2026 season.
