UNB
8-1-3
The Acadia Axewomen opened their 2025 Atlantic University Sport season Friday night on the road against the UNB REDS, dropping a 3-0 decision at the BMO Centre.
Veteran UNB midfielder Heidi Lauwerijssen scored twice, striking in the 21st and 72nd minutes, while Sarah Nason added an insurance marker in added time for the home side.
Despite the result, Acadia battled throughout the contest and saw strong play from goalkeeper Milena Ramirez, who faced consistent pressure from the Reds' attack. The Axewomen created offensive opportunities of their own, including several quality looks in the opening half, but were unable to break through against UNB keeper Breanna Habinski, who recorded the clean sheet.
The Axewomen will now turn their attention to Sunday's matchup against the Mount Allison Mounties in Sackville. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m., as Acadia looks to build on the positives from their season-opening effort.
