Cougars break school record, hit two U SPORTS standards at Sanderson Classic
Regina dominated the Saskatoon meet as Shelaine Pritchard and a record-breaking relay squad secured their spots for the national championships during a weekend of 30 personal bests.
Shelaine Pritchard hit a U SPORTS standard in the long jump, the women's 4x200-metre relay squad broke its own school record and qualified for the U SPORTS Championships, and the Cougars combined for 30 personal-best performances as the University of Regina's track & field teams opened the 2026 calendar year at the Sanderson Classic this weekend in Saskatoon.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Competing in the long jump for the first time this season, Pritchard opened with a jump of 5.98 metres, which stood as her best of the event and exactly matched this season's U SPORTS standard. Along with Calgary's Sienna MacDonald and Guelph's Rebecca Parker, Pritchard is one of three U SPORTS athletes to have met the national standard in the long jump this season.
Pritchard was also part of the 4x200 relay team alongside Kaidyn Keith, Heidi Branning, and Queen Clayton. The quartet finished in a time of 1:39.77, which not only hit the U SPORTS standard but also broke the school record of 1:40.12 that the same group set at last year's Canada West Championships.
Keith and Faith Adebogun also recorded second-place individual finishes. Keith was runner-up in the triple jump (11.38m), while Adebogun placed second in the weight throw (14.00m).
Tristan Boateng and Arwin Mathivathanan erased decades of history in Windsor as York track and field athletes secured 15 podium finishes and two national top rankings to open the 2026 season.
Toronto dominated the track Friday night as the women’s 4x200-metre relay team secured a narrow victory over host Windsor to highlight a five-medal opening session at the Can-Am Classic.
