HALIFAX, Nova Scotia — The Dalhousie Tigers edged the Saint Mary's Huskies 2-1 on Sunday at Wickwire Field. The Huskies took an early lead with a first-half goal, but the Tigers responded with two goals in the second half to secure the victory. Dalhousie dominated the shot count, registering 13 shots on goal compared to the Huskies' 5, and converted one of their 12 shots on target into the game-winning goal.
The first half began with Saint Mary's taking an early lead when Cara Freeman scored in the third minute, assisted by Charlotte Baines. Dalhousie responded with multiple offensive attempts, notably a shot by Maeve McCloskey in the 23rd minute and two more from Elise Evans, all saved by Tatyana Olsen. Despite outshooting the Huskies in the latter part of the half, the Tigers trailed 1-0 at halftime.
The second half began with Dalhousie turning up the pressure, starting with a penalty kick goal by Sally Steinberg in the 58th minute to level the match. Just over a minute later, Jordan Mansfield, who was named the player of the game, found the net, assisted by Evans, giving Dalhousie a 2-1 lead. Despite a series of fouls, the home team maintained their advantage, with goalkeeper Emily Toth making a crucial save in the 66th minute to secure the victory.
Steinberg scored once for the Tigers, converting one of her three shots on goal. Mansfield netted the game-winning goal, tallying a shot on goal to secure the lead. Evans contributed with an assist, creating a scoring opportunity from her three shots on goal. Toth, in goal, recorded three saves while conceding just one goal across 90 minutes of play.
