The Bisons men's hockey team added two impact recruits today, announcing the commitment of forward Lucas Brennan and goalie Matthew Kieper.

Brennan is a proven scorer who most recently played for Sherwood Park in the BCHL, while Kieper was the SJHL MVP and Goalkeeper of the Year with Flin Flon this past year, going 23-2-2 with a .935 save percentage.

The 5'9", 175-pound Brennan is a Winnipeg native and former MJHL League MVP with the Selkirk Steelers. In 2022-23, he led the MJHL in points, with 84 in 53 games and he also has experience in the USHL and BCHL. With Sherwood Park, as well as Vernon last year, Brennan tallied a combined 66 points in 51 games.

"Lucas is a skilled forward who we believe can help bolster our offence with his abilities," said Bisons head coach Gordon Burnett. "He has a history of being able to score, and when he is not scoring, he has the work ethic and motor to contribute in other ways."

The 6'2", 190-pound Kieper is a Winnipeg product with experience in the SJHL, AJHL and WHL. In the latter, he suited up for Regina and Kamloops from 2020-2024, winning 16 games in 2021-22 with the Pats. He also went 9-1 with Kamloops in 2022-23 with a 2.96 goals against average and .906 save percentage. In 77 games played in the WHL, Kieper tallied 38 wins, along with 26 at the Junior A level, with a .920 save percentage and 2.31 goals against average.

"Matthew is coming off a great season with the Flin Flon Bombers. I have had the privilege of watching him develop through his junior career and now we are excited to have him join our team," said Burnett.

"He has a proven ability to perform at the highest level with some of his big-time saves, and he has won in the past with his fast, athletic style."
