CALGARY – Graduating libero Austin Ellchuk has signed a professional contract to continue his volleyball career with Hvidovre Volleyball Klub in Denmark.
Ellchuk is the latest recent UCalgary graduate to take his talents to the next level, with classmates Louis Kunstmann (Germany) and Jackson Meier (France) also signing professional contracts earlier this summer.
A local product that played for Elite West Volleyball Club, Ellchuk has proven to be a versatile player on the court, adapting his game to the team's needs over the course of his time as a Dino.
Despite suffering an injury that largely kept him off the court his final season, Ellchuck graduates with 93 total matches and 328 total sets played in the Scarlet & Gold. He racked up 477 digs and 117 assists in that time to go with 50 kills, nine blocks and three service aces.
The Calgary native played a big role in the Dinos' big playoff run back in 2022 that saw them claim the bronze medal in the strongest conference in the country in Canada West before finishing fourth at the U SPORTS Championships.
Ellchuk's new squad is located in Hvidovre, Denmark - a suburb of the Danish capital city of Copenhagen. They compete in the Volleyligaen, where they went 4-14 a season ago in the 10-team league.
The UBC Thunderbirds return to War Memorial Gym this weekend looking to extend their winning streak as they host the MacEwan Griffins for a critical two-game series in Vancouver.
