The Acadia Axemen men’s hockey program has landed a high-character addition with the commitment of Maritime Hockey League veteran Kiefer Avery.
The 6'3 forward from Hazel Glen, N.S., brings size, leadership, and a 200-foot game to the Axemen lineup after four standout seasons with the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. Avery served as captain of the Crushers for his final two years and was named the MHL Community Spirit Award winner during the 2024-25 season for his contributions off the ice.
On the ice, Avery totalled 128 points in 171 regular season games with Pictou County, including 39 goals and 89 assists. He added 13 points across 23 playoff contests.
“It’s an honour to commit to such a great program,” said Avery. “I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the fan base, and I can’t wait to get out there and show what I can do to help the team win.”
Avery will study business at Acadia.
“Kiefer is an extremely hard worker who continues to improve as a player each year,” said Axemen head coach Darren Burns. “He is highly intelligent and plays a strong 200-foot game. He has shown a lot of leadership as the captain in Pictou. We want to make sure we approach every day with the highest work ethic and we are very confident he will be a big contributor in this process.”
Avery becomes the latest Nova Scotia product to join the Axemen as Acadia continues to strengthen its lineup with homegrown talent and proven leaders.
The Panthers are banking on local boy Colby Huggan, fresh off a stellar QMJHL season, to electrify their offense and bring a hometown buzz to this year.
