(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS tennis teams earned a win and a draw in Atlantic University Tennis League action last weekend at Fredericton’s Abony Family Tennis Centre.

Facing the Dalhousie Tigers’ No. 2 team and backed by sharp doubles play and clutch performances at the top of both lineups, the REDS men earned a 3-1 victory, while the women battled to a hard-fought 2-2 draw.

REDS’ head coach Chris Nadeau was proud of the way both teams competed.

“It was a great team effort on both sides,” he said. “Our doubles were both strong and our leaders stepped up big in the men’s and the women’s matches.”

UNB struck first with a composed and disciplined performance from Ben Hamilton and James Farhoud-Watt, who controlled the net and dictated play throughout an 8-4 win over Dal’s Harrison Wheeler & Sam Rayner.

Dal's Charlie Wood leveled the dual with a strong performance against Peter Hebert, taking the match 8-1.

UNB’s Salman Basha put the REDS back in front, using heavy pace and smart targets to defeat Will Hardman 8-2, and team captain Hamilton sealed the dual with another composed performance, defeating Rayner 8-4 and delivering UNB’s clinching point.

On the women’s side, the REDS opened with a confident doubles win, as Emma Murray and Emma Giberson combined for an 8-3 victory over Paz Garcia and Paris Axam, giving UNB an early lead.

Dal’s Alessia Watson earned the Tigers’ first point, defeating Jigisha Kumari 8-4 in a competitive match.

And the Tigers moved ahead 2-1 as Winn Binks topped Giberson 8–4 in another tightly contested match.

With the dual on the line, Murray delivered the women’s performance of the night, edging Garcia 8-7 (7-4) in a pressure-packed finish to secure the draw.

The REDS next event on the AUTL schedule is Saturday, January 10th (2026), when they take on STFX at the Cougar Dome, in Truro, Nova Scotia.
