TORONTO — The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Bold men's soccer team is excited to announce the commitment of goalkeeper Matthew Owang to the 2025-26 recruiting class.

A local talent, Owang has developed his game across the Greater Toronto Area. His competitive career began with Cherry Beach Soccer Club from 2016 to 2017 before moving to the North York Cosmos in 2018. He spent four developmental years with Canada First Academy between 2019 to 2022. In 2023, Owang returned to Cherry Beach SC for two more seasons before making the jump to playing semi-professional with the North Toronto Nitros in 2025.

Owang was also very active in his high school athletics at Malvern Collegiate Institute, where he played both varsity soccer and basketball. In 2022, he was named the Malvern Athletic Rookie of the year, and in 2023 he was named basketball MVP. In his senior year, he captained both teams, claimed soccer MVP, and sustained academic excellence, earning a place on the 2025 honour roll.

Known for his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility, the goalkeeper looks forward to building his game and pursuing a higher education at TMU. He will be studying in the Business Management program and is happy to join a high-level soccer program while staying close to family.

Owang is one of many North Toronto Nitros joining the squad in the 2025-26 recruiting class. He marks the 11th recruit in what looks like a strong and connected incoming class.
