(FREDERICTON, NB) The defending Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey champions, the UNB REDS, are adding forward Thomas Larouche to their recruiting class of 2025.
The 21-year-old centre has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2025-2026 AUS season.
“Any time a player wants to be part of your program the way Thomas has been, you get excited,” said REDS’ head coach Rob Hennigar. “We’re thrilled to have him.”
“It feels amazing, it’s a dream come true to join such a prestigious program with a great history,” said Larouche. “I’m excited for the challenge and ready to give it my all. I can’t wait to get things started.”
Larouche, who chose UNB over other recruiting options, played 119 games with the Val d’Or Foreurs over two Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League seasons, scoring 23 goals and assisting on 38 others.
He split the 2024-2025 season between Yarmouth and Campbellton, of the Maritime Junior Hockey League, scoring 22 goals and 39 assists. During the MHL playoffs, he helped Campbellton to the North Division final with six goals and eight assists in ten games.
“I think Coach Hennigar wants me because of my work ethic and ability to adapt to different roles,” said Larouche. “I like to bring a positive mindset into the locker room, and I’m a good skater that can create plays in the offensive zone.”
“He’s a passionate player who can add speed and tenaciousness to our line-up,” said Coach Hennigar. “He had a solid 18-year-old year in Val d’Or and we think he has loads of upside. We’re looking forward to getting him into the UNB culture and growing his game.”
Larouche will study Business while attending UNB.
