2-2-0
SASKATOON, Sask. – It was a record-setting performance from the University of Saskatchewan (USask) Huskie Women's Soccer team Sunday afternoon at Griffiths Stadium. The Huskies defeated the Lethbridge Pronghorns 10-0, setting a new program record for single-game goals scored. Eight USask student-athletes found the back of the net, with Madison Mayert and Isabelle Lachance recording multi-goal games.
The previous program record of nine goals scored was also achieved in a victory against the Pronghorns, coming back in the 2010 season. The record was then matched just a season ago in a win against the Winnipeg Wesmen.
With the win, the Huskies draw back to an even 2-2-0 record following two losses to open the 2025 campaign. The Pronghorns meanwhile fall to 0-3-1 through two weeks of the season.
After scoring just three minutes into the match on Saturday, Saskatchewan got off to another quick start Sunday afternoon. Third-year fullback Daraida Sutherland carried the ball up the left side of the pitch in the 13th minute before sending a centering pass into the box. The pass found Madison Mayert who expertly redirected the ball just under the crossbar and into the top right corner of the net, giving the Dogs the early advantage.
With the game's opening goal, the Huskies pressed the attack. Mayert found Alyssa D'Agnone headed upfield, who then passed to Danielle Lehmann streaking through a pair of Pronghorn defenders. With just the goalkeeper to beat, Lehmann capitalized, scoring the second Huskie goal just 36 seconds later.
Ten minutes later Saskatchewan was back on the attack, with Sutherland once again carrying the ball into the Pronghorns end of the pitch. After a centering attempt went far, Tia Lecox sent the ball back into the box, finding D'Agnone for a goal-line redirection and the third score of the game.
In the 29th minute it appeared Saskatchewan was going to once again extend their lead when fifth-year striker Marie Kilcher broke free of the Lethbridge backline. After Pronghorn keeper Kate Prince blocked Kilcher's first shot attempt, the rebound returned to the local Saskatoon product, but unable to get a clean shot off, the ball was cleared.
Three minutes later the ball was back on Kilcher's foot and headed upfield. The fifth-year striker would send a blistering shot from 30 yards out just below the crossbar and out of the reach of Prince, extending the USask lead to 4-0 heading into the half.
The second half saw a lopsided frame for Saskatchewan with the Huskies scoring just three minutes in when a Sophia Piast corner found Taryn Izsak for a header goal.
Ten minutes later, a Lethbridge penalty in the box saw Cheyenne Lehmann capitalize on a penalty kick, bringing the score to 6-0.
In the 68th minute, Saskatchewan received another corner opportunity, but this time Piast would do it all by herself. The second-year midfielder curved the ball perfectly, scoring the first Huskie olympico in exactly a year when teammate Cheyenne Lehmann recorded one in a 2-2 draw against the MacEwan Griffins.
Rookie Isabelle Lachance then got in on the action, scoring back-to-back goals just 53 seconds apart to bring the score to 9-0, and tie the Huskie program record. The two scores we also Lachance's second and third of the season after she recorded her first career U SPORTS goal in the Huskies' season-opener last weekend.
Finally, Madison Mayert would tally the record-breaking score after the Lethbridge backline seemingly lost the third-year Winnipeg product on the wing. Saskatchewan's 10th goal was Mayert's second of the game.
The Huskies return to action next weekend when they head to Edmonton for their first road trip of the season. Saskatchewan will face off with the 1-1-2 Alberta Pandas Saturday, before taking on the 2-2-0 MacEwan Griffins on Sunday.
Stung early by a first-half deficit, Calgary unleashed a second-half surge led by Sarah Donick's scoring prowess to dismantle Alberta's previously unbeaten record in a 4-1 victory.
