Mudaliar and Langston find the back of the net as Cascades win home opener

Abbotsford, BC - Eesha Mudaliar and Kiana Langston both found the back of the net for the UFV Cascades on Thursday at Rotary Stadium, as the Cascades picked up their first win of the season 2-1 over the UNBC Timberwolves. 

The Cascades' win pushes their record to 1-2 on the season, while UNBC falls to 0-3 in Canada West play.

How it happened:
The Cascades controlled the bulk of the play in the first half, having an early goal disallowed for offside. UFV finally found the breakthrough three minutes before the half. Camryn Lyon played a long freekick into the box that eventually found it's way to the feet of Mudaliar. Her shot took a strong deflection off a UNBC defender before hitting the back of the net to make it 1-0.

UNBC pushed back early in the second, with an RJ Barfoot shot striking the right post behind Cascades keeper Addy Chen in the 58th minute. Chen would come up huge for UFV after that, making four saves in the next three-minutes to keep their team ahead. 

The Cascades put the game out of reach in the 64th minute, as Emerson Toop charged down the left wing before seeing her shot parried by UNBC keeper Johanna Rathke. However, that rebound fell to the feet of Langston who made no mistake poking it into the back of the goal.

UNBC pulled one back late, as Scarlet Thomas scored from a penalty kick in added time, but UFV held on to secure the 2-1 win.

The Cascades and Timberwolves meet once again on Friday at Rotary Stadium to finish off the week. Kickoff is set for 5:30 pm in Abbotsford and live on Canada West TV.
