As announced by Altino Volley on Tuesday (Aug. 12), University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's volleyball player Julia Murmann has signed a professional contract with the Italian club for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Murmann competed with the U of T women's volleyball program over the past four seasons earning accolades throughout each campaign with the Varsity Blues. Major accomplishments included being named OUA and U SPORTS rookie of the year in 2022, as well as receiving U SPORTS all-Canadian recognition in three of her four seasons wearing the Blue and White. Murmann is one of only five Varsity Blues to surpass 900 career points since 2003-04. Appearing in 66 matches and 249 sets, she ranks second in program history with 891 career kills, while adding an impressive 821 career digs to show off her tremendous defensive abilities as well.
In addition to her time with the Blues, she has also become a consistent presence with the Canadian national team. This summer she has been a member of Team Canada for the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) and the upcoming FIVB Women's World Championship. Additionally, she has worn the maple leaf during Canada's bronze medal run at the 2023 NORCECA Continental Championship.
"I'm so excited for this upcoming season in Altino, and I'm looking forward to working hard with the players and the staff," said Murmann.
Altino Volley is based our of Abruzzo, Italy located just east of Rome. Matches for the professional club are scheduled to begin in early October.
