ANTIGONISH - The reigning AUS champion STFX X-Men and the always strong CBU Capers played to a 1-1 draw on Friday evening in Antigonish to kick off their 2025 AUS campaigns.
The first half was even, with a slight possession advantage for the home side. It was a physical affair, with strong chances throughout. Samuel Diltz for STFX and Jack Harrington for the Capers both had strong games in the nets, keeping their teams even through most of the match.
The Capers opened the scoring in the second half as Jamie Nicholson pounced on a loose ball in the box and popped it home. Myroslav Zastavnyy replied for STFX two minutes later, knocking home a shot off a great pass from Kyle Cordeiro.
Johann Hebert picked up player of the game for the visitors while Zastavnyy earned the Gabriel Pizza Player of the game award for STFX.
The X-Men host the Dalhousie Tigers on Sunday at 1 p.m., while the Capers head to Charlottetown on Sunday to face the UPEI Panthers.
