ANTIGONISH- The STFX X-Women soccer team opened their 2025 campaign with a 1-1 draw with the visiting CBU Capers on Friday evening at STFX Stadium.
The X-Women struck first, as fourth year forward Aidan Miller found the back of the net in the 9th minute, with Cheyenne Bower assisting. Eight minutes later, Caper Olivia Albright brought her side even, with Julie Sampson assisting.
The rest of the game was as even as the score indicates, with both teams earning chances while displaying high caliber defending. Caper forward Leah Disipio hit the post in extra time, but rookie STFX keeper Sarah Bach kept the door closed, building on some big saves from earlier in the game.
CBU midfielder Grace Hannaford picked up player of the game honors for the visitors while Bach received the Gabriel Pizza STFX player of the game.
The X-Women return to action on Sunday afternoon, when they host the Dalhousie Tigers at 1 p.m.. The Capers continue their road trip for an 11 a.m. matchup with the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown.
The St. Catharines, ON product has been team captain of various squads, and holds an academic average of over 94 percent in the classroom.
