The Algoma University Thunderbirds are proud to announce the commitment of Biong Deng to the men's basketball team for the upcoming season.

Originally from Brooks, Alberta, Biong is a dynamic guard who has been playing basketball since the age of 11. He's developed his skills through elite-level programs like Goodhoops and Western Canada Prep, gaining experience at major tournaments including the Tarkanian Classic, Dime Session, CJBL, and EIBC.

A standout during his senior year at St. Joseph's Collegiate, Biong was named Team MVP, thanks to his all-around impact on both ends of the floor. Known for his defensive toughness, work ethic, and ability to score when needed, Biong brings energy, effort, and consistency to every game.

"We are excited to have Biong join our program and look forward to him bringing his defensive intensity. We will be a lot more versatile this upcoming year and he fits right into what we are trying to do both offensively and defensively," says Head Coach Ryan Vetrie.

Off the court, he enjoys watching movies, gaming, and will be studying Accounting at Algoma University. A high school honours student, Biong is eager to continue growing as both a student and an athlete.

"I chose Algoma because it feels like the best fit for me—both on and off the court. The environment, the coaching staff, and the culture all align with what I'm looking for," said Deng.

Welcome to the Thunderbirds, Biong!
