A dominant third-quarter surge propelled Victoria to a hard-fought victory Friday, as the Vikes stifled a persistent Fraser Valley attack to maintain their grip on the Pacific Division.

Victoria, BC – The University of Victoria men's basketball team defeated the University of Fraser Valley 83-73, January 10 at CARSA Performance Gym.
 
Back and forth opening half

  • The Cascades and Vikes both came to play, trading scores in the first half.
  • The Vikes were the first to capture a sizable, seven-point lead, but the Cascades fought back to take a narrow 41-40 halftime lead.

 
The Vikes separated themselves and held on for victory.

  • The Vikes came out of the halftime break surging, allowing them to retake the lead.
  • The Vikes' big third quarter put them in front by 10 as the fourth quarter approached.
  • The two squads traded offensive blows in the fourth; the Vikes matched every Cascades score, disabling their comeback attempt.

 
Notables

  • The Vikes improve to 11-2, remaining atop the Canada West Pacific Division. The Cascades fall to 7-6 with the loss.
  • Ethan Boag led the Vikes with 18 points on his seven made shots.

 
The Vikes will hit the road to take on the Trinity Western Spartans on January 16 at 8 p.m.
