Katie Butts dominated the glass as the UNB REDS secured a conference playoff spot Friday, overwhelming the Cape Breton Capers behind a trio of double-double performances to remain atop the Atlantic University Sport standings.

(FREDERICTON, NB) Three UNB REDS recorded double-doubles in a decisive 102-27 victory over the visiting Cape Breton Capers in Atlantic University Sport women's basketball action, Friday evening, at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center.

Katie Butts led the REDS with 19 points and 20 rebounds. Butts' double-double came in the first half, where she scored 17 points and grabbed 11 of her rebounds. She was named the Tim Horton's Player of the Game.

First-year RED Clancy MacIntyre also double-doubled, the first of her AUS career, with 19 points and 13 rebounds. MacIntyre was 8-for-8 shooting, including 3-of-3 from three-point range.

UNB's Zoe Olscamp dropped 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

The home team opened with a 9-0 run and held a commanding 29-8 lead after just one quarter.

The REDS took a 55-16 lead to the half-time break.

UNB limited the Capers to just a half dozen points in the third quarter, extending their lead to 75-22 and coasted to their 75-point triumph.

Amanda Cruickshank led the Capers' effort with seven points, four rebounds, and three assists.

With the win, the REDS improve to 11-and-1, clinch a post-season berth, and continue to sit atop the AUS standings.

The Capers fall to 1-10.

UNB and the Cape Breton tangle again Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
