The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football program is pleased to announce that Jykine Bradley has been hired as the team's new full-time defensive coordinator.
Bradley takes over for long-time DC Bob Mullen, who announced his retirement earlier this spring. He is no stranger to the Blues program after serving as the team's defensive backs coach and co-special teams coordinator in 2024.
"Jykine was one of the first people I met back in 2007 when I migrated to Canada to play in the CFL and we've maintained both a professional and personal relationship ever since," said Varsity Blues head coach Darrell Adams. "He brought a much-needed energy and excitement to our program last year. Continuity amongst the staff is of utmost importance to our current student-athletes and I have no doubt that his knowledge, expertise and passion will be beneficial as the leader of the defence."
Prior to joining U of T, Bradley coached with the Waterloo Warriors for four seasons before serving as a coach at Northwood University in Michigan for one season. Following that, he served as the defensive backs coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2022 and the Ottawa REDBLACKS in 2023.
As a player, Bradley earned a scholarship to Middle Tennessee State University, where he started every game and eventually earned recognition as a first-team All-Sun Belt player.
"My family and I are truly grateful for the opportunity to join Coach Adams and the exceptional coaching staff he has assembled in shaping the next generation of young men at the University of Toronto," said Bradley. "In my role as defensive coordinator, I am eager to support these student-athletes both on and off the field. We are extremely excited to be a Varsity Blue!"
Following a successful college career, he received an invitation to the All-Star Hula Bowl and signed a free agent deal with the Buffalo Bills. After playing overseas for the Berlin Thunder in NFL Europe, Bradley played six seasons for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and a subsequent year with the Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL.
Coach Alex Surprenant recently tapped six players to lead the Redbirds onto the gridiron in 2025, a diverse group boasting both seasoned veterans and rising stars.
