Rams: Running Backs & Tight Ends

The Rams are banking on a potent blend of returning talent and emerging potential in their backfield and tight end groups, hoping the combination of power running, and crucial blocking will pave the way for a dominant offensive.

Running Backs
The Rams often utilized multiple players out of the backfield in 2024, but Marshall Erichsen and Christian Katende established themselves as a legitimate one-two punch and are primed to lead the backfield in 2025.

"Marshall and Christian complement each other extremely well," said Rams' head coach Mark McConkey. "They provide us with a lot of versatility at the position."

The quick and shifty Erichsen rushed for 491 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2024, while adding 18 receptions for 229 yards. Heading into his 3rd-year of eligibility, he is already 11th in all-time rushing yards for the Rams.

Katende – who is more of a down-hill runner – had a career year in 2024, highlighted by a massive 228 yard, 2 TD game in a must-win game vs Alberta in Week 8.

His 228 yards rushing was the third highest single-game total in Rams' history.

Dynamic athlete Quinton Fettes is also expected to contribute and has been spending time long snapping in camp. Fettes dressed in Week 8 last year and is also a member of the Cougars track & field team, where he finished 5th in the heptathlon at the 2025 Canada West Championships.

McConkey has also been impressed with the development of the rest of the running back group.

Gavin Wittingham is heading into his 3rd year with the program out of Terry Fox Secondary in Port Coquitlam BC, where he was teammates with QB Owen Sieben.

Jeremiah Nyambiya and Damien Cherry both return to the group for their second season with the team. Nyambiya transferred from Wilfred Laurier University, and Cherry went to Ernest Manning High School in Calgary.

Finally, the lone new recruit at the position is Onan Furst. Furst comes from Oak Park High School in Winnipeg, and was part of Team Manitoba for the 2024 U18 Football Canada Cup.

Tight Ends
The tight end group is unchanged from last season and is still comprised of Joe Camplin and Dawson Abbott.

"We will once again expect them to block like an offensive lineman and catch like a wide receiver," said offensive line coach Roe Borgmann of the group.

Camplin served as the primary option in 2024 and had career highs in receptions and yards while also contributing on special teams.

Abbott is entering his fourth season on the team after playing junior football for the Winnipeg Rifles.
